Coffee with purpose
Our coffee grows at 1,600 meters and is the result of the manual work of brave women in the mountains of Comayagua. With no formal employment available, they find in the land the livelihood for their families.
It is organic by nature: the producing families cannot afford chemical fertilizer. But coffee is seasonal, so these communities only have work three or four months a year, which perpetuates a cycle of extreme poverty. To fight that, the ministry buys small portions of their harvest; at times they sell from their annual reserve just to buy food for their children.
The result is a single product made of micro-lots of high-quality varieties: Caturra, Catuai, Bourbon, Typica, Pacas, Lempira and Parainema. Seventy-five percent is processed by hand by the women with the help of their children, using techniques handed down between generations: this is not industrial coffee, but artisan coffee with indigenous DNA, handled with recipes of the Lenca and Chorti peoples who lived in these mountains.
This vision was born on visits to their homes, seeing the hard economic reality they live in. Today 60% of our ministry work happens directly with these families. Buying their coffee strengthens our bond with them and creates constant opportunities to share the message of faith and hope.
